You can’t work long hours because the dog needs company, and foster dogs often don’t want to be left alone at the beginning. The level of commitment expected from dog fosters can vary from shelter to shelter, so make sure to talk to the rescue team before deciding to become a foster parent. Shelters usually have tight budgets, so foster parents are not compensated for fostering. Also, if you are looking to foster a dog, you should have a strong desire to help shelter dogs find good homes because fostering is not just about cuddles and playtime.
